On the occasion of “International Women Day” an Awareness Rally was orgainsed by the NSS volunteers of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala. Dr Harshinder Kaur, a social activist and Deputy Medical Superintendent, Govt. Medical College and Hospital, Patiala and the college Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar flagged off the rally. About 500 volunteers under the leadership of Programme officers – Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Prof. Jagdeep Kaur and Prof. Harmohan Sharma, carrying placards in their hands marched from M M Modi College to the Fountain Chowk and back.
Dr. Harshinder Kaur, while addressing the volunteers expressed that the evils of domestic violence, female foeticide, rape, illiteracy and gender bias are to be eradicated by the awakened generation of young boys and girls. She impressed upon the girl students to be very conscious about their important role in the overall development of society. They should also make the others aware about it. She asked the educated youth to create an environment where women get equal opportunities of development in every field.
On this occasion, Dr Khushvinder Kumar, Principal of the college said that the women can be empowered by educating them. He further stressed upon the need to change the feudal mindset of the male dominated society so that the women get equal status and equal opportunities. He said that a small section of women has made remarkable achievements, but a large section of them has been deprived of the fruits of development.
A large number of college teachers and employees also took part in the rally. District administration and the police have made sufficient arrangements for the smooth conduct of rally.
